Website Review

Hello again!

This month, I'm going a little different direction, and taking a look at an off-the-beaten-track Stargate website:  The Stargate Database.  The site, at http://sgdb.theaquaria.net, was forwarded to me by someone searching for Season 6 pictures.  Let's take a look at the rest of the site!

The first thing you'll notice is the variety of links on the left side of the page.  The home page has short descriptions of the pages comprising the site, so one can decide where to click first.  The biggest issue I have with the home page is that you cannot get BACK to the home page from the rest of the pages... there is no "Home" link!  Hopefully that will be fixed (hint hint!) but once you get started it's really not necessary.

Section the First:  Stargate: SG-1 (Series)

The Episode Guide has a short blurb for each episode, including all that are currently available for Season 7.  I also discovered that this is an interactive site, as you, the surfer, can leave reviews for episodes!  I didn't click all of them, but I think that the Episode Review is a fairly new section, as there aren't any reviews posted yet.  Looks like a job for... the fans!  The Episode Transcripts are posted with permission of the Yahoo!Groups list, SG1_Transcripts, and cover Season 1 through Season 6.

The Cast Bios are quite up to date (as opposed to the MGM site...Ahem.) and give a good listing of other appearances of each of the lead actors as well as Don S. Davis and Teryl Rothery.  I think the owners of the site must be Teryl fans -- her mini-bio is the longest and most complete of all.  The Cast Interviews gives either a link to a transcript, or the transcript itself.  These are both interviews and chat transcripts.  The only issues I have with some of these transcripts is that there are no dates on most of them, and I wasn't sure where some of the transcripts came from.  Besides those two points, the Interview section is a good reference for who-said-whats.

The highlight of this site is the Image Gallery.  If you don't use this site for anything else...come see this!  They have over 22,000 good-sized caps in the Image Gallery for all episodes up through 6x20 "Memento".  Lots of goodies, and yet are missing some caps that I'd like to see.... but that's the shipper in me!

Section the Second:  Stargate (The Movie)

This section needs a little TLC.  The two parts of this section that are filled out are the Cast Bios -- which are pleasantly extensive -- and the Image Gallery.  If you need actor info or caps from the movie, look here.

Section the Third:  For Fun

Need a definition or character blurb?  Look in "Stargate A-Z".  This is the place to come to find out that Froot Loops are "Not a subject Colonel O'Neill wishes to even think about after Window of Opportunity."  Very nice, Kira!

The Download section has screensavers, wallpapers, ICQ skins, WinAmp skins, and Desktop Themes.  You want Stargate on your computer?  Here's the place to browse.  There is a link for Nokia Ringtones, as well...unfortunately, I don't have a Nokia phone to see what this might sound like!

The Fan Art is...well, I think it's a computer rendering of the Gate, but I'm not sure.  See if you can tell.  Having actually been in this room, it looks pretty good to me!  This section needs more entries, oh, gentle readers.

The Fan Fiction section has listing from A-Z according to title by default, but can be sorted by rating (G through NC-17 -- careful, minors!), by author or by date.  From appearances, only about 12 authors submit to this site, and most of the fanfic, I think, is S/J or other ship.  I could be wrong!  I didn't look at all of them...but the ones I did click on were shippy-ish in some way or another.

The Quiz is ...wow.  You can answer 10 questions that are picked out of the trivia database at random, or you can choose to go hog-wild and attempt to answer all *497* of them.  Whew!  This is a good place for the SG-1 geek in all of us!  I wonder if Peter "I'm the Walking Stargate Encyclopedia" DeLuise knows about this quiz?

The (new) Forum is a message board from Misty Moor Cafe...looks like discussions cover SG-1 as well as some Trek.

Section the Last:  Site Info

This is your basic "contact/guestbook/links/banners" section...there are a few broken links (hint, hint, webmaster!!) but everything looks fairly straightforward.

All in all, this is a fun site.  I really liked the Image Gallery and the Quiz.  Check it out for yourself!!
